The University-Industry Meeting in Burhaniye Attracted Great Interest
Another successful event was held at the Faculty of Applied Sciences (BUBFA) in Burhaniye, Balıkesir, as part of the university-industry meeting series. During the panel moderated by Prof. Dr. Sabriye Çelik Uğuz, students had the opportunity to meet with Buse Tellioğlu Altındiş from Balıkesir, Mehmet Çavlı from Ayvalık, and Nevin Aydın Us.
The event titled “Transformation in the Food Industry: Flour and Olive Oil” took place at the Martyr Mehmet Selim Kiraz Conference Hall of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Moderated by Prof. Dr. Sabriye Çelik Uğuz, the panel featured Buse Tellioğlu Altındiş from TOBB, Mehmet Çavlı from Komili, and Nevin Aydın Us, the Alanya Chef of Gastronomy Stars.
Buse Tellioğlu Altındiş shared information about various types of flour and stated that their products are exported to 40 countries. She emphasized that Turkey is a leading exporter of flour globally. Mehmet Çavlı spoke about olives and olive oil, highlighting the long lifespan of olive trees and noting that Turkey produced 475,000 tons of olive oil this year. He also mentioned that the price of olive oil is around 4 euros and pointed out that olive oil consumption in Turkey remains quite low.
Addressing the students of the Gastronomy Department, Nevin Aydın Us emphasized the importance of flour quality in bread-making. She mentioned that she provides training on sourdough bread production in Ayvalık and encouraged students by saying, “Love your work. Continuously improve yourself. Put your passion into what you do. Follow your bread. Don’t let go of your bread.”
Following the panel, Nevin Aydın Us joined the gastronomy students to prepare olive oil pastry together.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Oğuzhan İlban, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, expressed his gratitude to Buse Tellioğlu Altındiş, Mehmet Çavlı, and Nevin Aydın Us, presenting them with plaques and flowers in recognition of their contributions.
